Stewardship

Worship is giving. The greatest concentration of “worship” language in the NT is in 2 Corinthians 8-9 where Paul speaks about giving and promise keeping. This is not surprising. Generosity is sacrifice to God and God loves a cheerful, willing giver (2 Cor 9:7). We learn sacrifice in forgiving debts (Matt 6:12). As we must be living sacrifices (Rom 12:1), we understand also that possessions as an extension of self must be given up, distributed to those in need. We remember that the first church’s early participation in the Spirit together (koinonia, Acts 2-6) involved its sharing of possessions.

Our stewardship at Brentwood reflects our understanding of our work as God’s people, of caring for the fatherless, the widow in distress, of caring for those in need near and far, of teaching the gospel at home and abroad, of caring for our house.
