VCA

A History

In the mid 1970s, our congregation did something which continues to be a blessing today. Our Village Christian Apartments (“VCA” to most of us) exist today through the work of many and the leadership of Ike Summerlin. In partnership with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Brentwood Oaks built the VCA to provide safe and comfortable housing for people over the age of 62 and those with disabilities. Ike is now asleep in the Lord, but the VCA is going strong. Under the excellent leadership of Ricky Hayes, our Resident Manager, and Helen Smith, our Activities Director, life at the VCA is both safe and enjoyable.

A Ministry

Many opportunities are available for you to enjoy life together with the wonderful residents at VCA. Aside from CARE group activities, several other groups from Brentwood Oaks are involved in ministry at VCA including the Youth, the College & Young Professionals, the Chorus, Brentwood Christian School, Saturday Samaritans, and E-teams. Our brothers and sisters at Westover Hills Church of Christ also host a weekly Sunday morning worship service at VCA. The facilities are open for groups wanting to work with the residents or for those who need a facility for various activities.

How do I get involved

If you have an idea for a CARE group service project or if you would like to participate in the current VCA activities, please contact Helen at 459-0201. We are always looking for fresh ideas. Your work and your time are a precious gift to the residents at VCA. May God be glorified in this ministry.
