Care Groups at Brentwood Oaks
What is a C.A.R.E. Group?
C.A.R.E. groups are small gatherings of Brentwood Oaks members and guests coming together in Community Acts of Renewal and Encouragement. C.A.R.E groups follow the model described in Acts 2:42 where God’s people met in homes, devoted themselves to the apostle’s teachings and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, to prayer, and to hospitality.

Community

Christianity from its inception has existed in community. In an ever increasingly isolated world, human beings are crying out for community as loud as ever. The C.A.R.E. groups at Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ are designed to create a real sense of belonging as Christians come together to rehearse the Christian walk through prayer, Bible study, and hospitality.
Acts
The single greatest act we can do as Christian brothers and sisters is to pray for each other daily (Eph. 6:18). In C.A.R.E. groups, both the leaders and members are asked to pray for each other as we tap into the true source of our strength. Fellowship is another important act in our Christian walk. Fellowship in C.A.R.E. groups is centered around a meal where men and women of all races celebrate the unity we have in Jesus Christ. Another act is service. Loving our neighbor is at the very core of our being as Christians. As Jesus laid down his life for many, we too offer our bodies as living sacrifices as an act of worship. Each C.A.R.E. group participates in service projects that benefit the widow, the fatherless, the poor, and other groups of people who are in need.
Renewal
“The Spirit brings people together over Scripture – listening, questioning, conversing toward faith.” – Eugene Peterson. Every second Sunday evening of each month, C.A.R.E. groups meet together in homes to renew our spirits through Bible Study. We believe that the word of God is living and active in shaping and forming our Spiritual lives.
Encouragement
Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Christian fellowship is a source of great encouragement, whether someone is experiencing times of joy or walking through the fires of trial. Christian fellowship is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes, “The physical presence of other Christians is a source of incomparable joy and strenth to the believer.”
